Songscription raises $5M from Reach Capital and others
Platform reaches 150,000 users in 150 countries since June
Company plans to add more instruments and features

Songscription just closed a $5 million funding round led by Reach Capital. The AI-powered music transcription startup wants to expand what people call the “Shazam for sheet music” platform. Emerge Capital, 10x Founders, and Dent Capital joined the round. Ron “Bumblefoot” Thal, former Guns N’ Roses lead guitarist, invested as an angel and now advises the company. Since launching in June, the platform has attracted over 150,000 users across 150 countries.

The platform turns audio recordings into editable sheet music, guitar tabs, and MIDI files. Right now, you get support for piano, violin, flute, guitar, bass guitar, and trumpet. Andrew Carlins, Co-founder and CEO, explains the problem. “Most musicians do not easily find notation for the songs they want to play, especially as platforms like Spotify have made more niche artists’ music increasingly accessible.” The company trains its models using public domain material and partnerships with artists. They negotiate deals with global music publishers for ethical data sourcing.

The funding addresses growing demand for AI audio production platforms solving complex automatic music transcription challenges. Songscription plans to expand instrument support and develop real-time performance feedback features. Think of this as a “music coach in your pocket.” The approach resembles how Moises AI assists music learners with stem splitting and chord detection. Thal says, “As a guitarist, our world is about getting the tabs and getting them right. For music teachers and players to have this assistance is phenomenal.”
